About Me

Hi! My name is Thomas Johnson - here's a little bit about me!

I was born on the 8th June 2003 in Macclesfield, a large town just south of Manchester. My brother came along two years later, by which point we had moved to Norfolk, where my Mum originally came from and where the vast majority of my family still lives.

My interest in cars and motorsport comes from my Dad. He's been a passionate petrolhead for the best part of 35 years, and is Treasurer for the MX5 Owners Club. He can't get enough of cars, and has been bringing me along to track days, car shows and club convoys ever since I could crawl.

The 'engineering' aspect didn't really blossom until a while later. In fact, up until around June 2021, I was convinced that I would be going to the University of Leeds to study Actuarial Mathematics. My brother and I had been watching Formula 1 for a few years by this point, after we were lucky enough to attend the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, in which Sebastian Vettel won ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen (cracking race if I do say so myself). He was off to study Mechanical Engineering at the National College For Motorsport and, not wanting to be outdone, I decided to change my mind at the last moment and apply for Automotive Engineering.

Now, I didn't get into my first choice, Loughborough, so I started searching around for universities that offered the course I was after, and, most importantly, had a Formula Student team. That's why Hertfordshire appealed so much - they had a student-led FS program that had boasted a lot of success throughout its long history.

I quickly got involved with the Concept Class team, and, thanks to my 'dive in at the deep end' approach, I was entrusted with the Powertrain department, which is to say, the HV System and Drivetrain. I learnt a lot that year, and I am incredibly glad I just went for it, as I I now have a great platform to build on for the upcoming year.

Me, ready for my first day at school.

Speed machine.
